A Little Story About
The Gambia
My wife and I have
a particularly "Soft Spot" for The Gambia.
Quite a few
years ago I
worked in that lovely country and after
doing a two year
tour came back to the U.K. for a 4
month holiday.
That was
when I met the young girl who became (and still is)
my wife.
Or course, this was quite
some time before it became a
holiday
destination.
At the end of my holiday
in the U.K. I proposed, my fiancé
accepted,
and I returned to The Gambia
in the middle of September.
We had agreed to marry there so I started to make
arrangements
as soon as I returned. The wedding was arranged
for early November!
Friends rallied round to help with the arrangements,
including the
reception and
attendants, etc. A few
problems were encountered;
times were arranged
and then changed but despite some last minute
hitches
the ceremony
eventually went ahead
at Government House,
officiated over by the
Attorney General. (It was still a British
Colony).
Our stay in Bathurst, (now Banjul), the capital of The Gambia,
lasted
for quite a few months before we had
to leave when I was transferred
to another country.
We have extremely fond memories of The Gambia including wonderful
weather, lovely white sandy beaches, an excellent club, a
few
hotels
and lovely people. There was beautiful scenery to be enjoyed,
lots of water sports,
plus exciting adventures and wildlife to be
seen `up
river`.
Check out the details.
You will be amazed at what this lovely country
on the
West Coast of Africa has to offer.
